- According to the Alfa Romeo Museum archives this Spider was manufactured on July 1st 1963 and sold by Alfa Romeo on April 20th 1964 to Chipstead Motors Limited of Holland Park in London.
- First registered new in England on May 28th 1964.
- This car is a very rare original factory produced right hand drive version (Giulia 1600 Spider Normale), of which only 404 were made, and all in 1963.
- The early history of this car is unknown, but an old registration document in the enormous history file of the car reveals that it was owned by a Gentleman in Banbury, Oxfordshire, from what is stated to be May 28th 1964 (the date of first registration). There are no recorded changes of ownership between February 1978 (when the registration book would have been updated to the printed version) and September 1998 when the car was purchased by Gentleman in Eynsham, Oxfordshire. By this time the original factory navy blue colour had given way at some point to white. Photographs in the history file taken at the time of purchase reveal the car to be in need of much work.
- It should be possible for a future owner of this Spider to carry out an ownership history report of this car that would detail its previous owners. It may be revealed that there were owners prior to the Gentleman in Banbury.
- The strip-down, restoration, and re-build was immensely thorough and has been comprehensively documented by photographs, clearly showing the many repair panels that were fitted to the car. The owner even drove to Belgium to collect the panels and when the car was re-painted the colour was changed to red.
- The restoration was completed in approximately May or June 2004 with the first MOT certificate on file being dated June 8th 2004. During the restoration the mileage on the odometer was zeroed, with the recorded mileage on the June 2004 MOT certificate being just 00004 miles. The odometer now records just 1,825 miles.
- The rebuild of the body is well documented in the history file but there are sadly no invoices relating to the mechanical rebuild. When we spoke to the Gentleman (who very kindly telephoned us after seeing his old car advertised for sale by us) he informed us that the engine and gearbox were rebuilt by an Italian car specialist local to him, although no paperwork was given to him by the specialist.
- In May 2005 the owner went to live in Normandy, France, for a few years and took the Spider with him, but as he fortunately never registered it there the car retained its original and distinctive English number plate. He drove the car occasionally, reporting to us an enjoyable journey to the Le Mans Classic one year, and then placed the Spider for sale in the Giulietta Register Giuliettaletta in October 2007.
- In January 2008 the car was purchased from the Gentleman by the most recent owner, who also resided in Oxford.
- Until the recent sale of the car to us, the documentation on file reveals that apart from its little vacation in France, the car had resided in the county of Oxfordshire all of its life.
- This is an exceptionally rare car (the 63rd of only 404) that is in fabulous condition having just undergone a bare-metal repaint by one of Englands leading Alfa Romeo specialist restorers. It also enjoys new chrome bumpers and side grilles as well as new seat covers and carpets.
