- This car was manufactured on July 7th 1967 and sold new in America as a left hand drive model. It was first registered in this country on October 14th 1970.
- We were informed by the previous Devon based owner of this superb Spider (who we purchased it from), that the history file was very sadly lost when a storage unit that he rented was flooded, destroying the contents.
- The previous gentleman owner purchased the Spider in October 1996 from a lady who lived just a few miles from him who had bought the car in August 1989. The registration document records a total of only three owners in the UK, but it is not known how many people owned the car prior to computerisation of the DVLA systems in the 1980's.
- When the car was registered in England in 1970 it was given the 1970 registration number of XFL-704J. The gentleman we purchased the car from had the DVLA issue the car with the age related number plate that the car currently wears.
- There is an invoice in the file from the well known Alfa Romeo trimmer Chris Adams for fitting a new roof and carpets in December 2003.
- We were informed by the previous owner that during their ownership the engine and gearbox have been rebuilt and a "major nut/bolt restoration" was carried out, although there is no history to support these claims. However, even a casual inspection of the car reveals that it has clearly has much time and money lavished upon it in recent years, and we were fortunate to have thoroughly enjoyed a lengthy test drive back from Devon when we collected the car. On the basis that installing interior trim is one of the last jobs to do when restoring a car, we expect the excellent restoration was carried out in 2002 and/or 2003.
- This really is a superb example of an early Spider Duetto that drives superbly.
